All volunteers who work with youth in St. Peter’s Parish must:
Two-deep leadership is required at all time. If the volunteer is there alone, ask a parent to stay until another adult arrives. If necessary, step out of the room and locate another adult if the youth are of an age that constant supervision is not needed.
Volunteers will not meet with youth on a one-on-one basis. However, if the need for counseling does occur, it should be completed where you can be seen by other adults and youth. If needed, take a second non-related adult to a private area. However, this should be done only if absolutely necessary.
The director of the ministry should check all doors in the building to assure they are locked, except for the rooms that will be used for the ministry. Youth should be informed that the backstage is always off limits, unless it is being used for a part of the ministry when the group is present.
Any new program involving youth, must receive the approval by the pastor. The request should be in writing with the description and a place for the signature of the pastor to indicate approval.
Volunteers who have registered for PGC through the Virtus website are encourage to re-visit the site periodically for new information.
Volunteers should receive a copy of the Diocesan Policy & Guidelines for Parish Youth Ministry Programs. If you did not receive a copy, please contact your ministry director.
